Cross Dresser Tips for Getting a Clean Close Shave

Shaving is probably one of the most frustrating parts of being a cross dresser. You think you do everything just right by using a good shaving cream and a new razor all to find out that you still have the same irritated red skin afterwards. The worst is when you still have some stubble that will just not disappear. The key to a clean close shave is a soft face. Read on to find out some of our secrets.

1. Moisturize
Since facial hair absorbs most of the moisture in your face, wetting your beard with water is simply not enough. Your beard will soak up that moisture rather quickly leaving your face dry again. Moisturize your face 15 minutes before shaving. Really glob it on, leaving a white layer of moisturizer on your face. Let it soak in your skin until you are ready to shave. Use a moisturizer WITHOUT alcohol in it. Alcohol will immediately dry up your skin.

2. Baby Oil + Warm Towel
This is a great trick to keep your face nice and soft. Rub some baby oil on your face and place a warm towel over your beard. Hold it down for a few minutes to let the oil soften your face. Added bonus, it feels amazing! Right after this you want to shave. Only apply the baby oil when you are ready to shave.

3. Use 2 razors
When choosing a shaving cream, be sure that it has lubricant and moisturizers in it. This will help keep your face nice and soft while shaving. You want two razors, one with multiple blades (preferably a four or more) the other one should be a single blade for the hard to reach areas. To make sure you are not too rough on your skin, first go over your face with the four blade and then clean and moisturize your face. Then you can go back and touch up the hard to reach places with the single blade razor.

4. Shower and Shave
One of the most common causes for razor burn is applying shaving cream to a dry face. Even though your face is well prepped, it is still a good idea to shave in the shower so you face is constantly moist. Make sure the shower water is on warm not cold.  Shave in the direction of your beard growth to avoid bumps and nicks. I know sometimes the only way to get certain hairs out is to shave in the opposite direction but do try to avoid this. You can get the stubborn hairs out with your smaller, single blade razor. Be sure to rinse your blade very frequently and do not shave over the same area more than once. I know it may be tempting to use women's shaving cream but cross dressers should be sure to use a men's shaving cream.

5. Cleanse & Moisturize Again
Once you are out of the shower, wash your face with warm water and a face cleanser (preferably one with tea tree oil). Cleansers that have tea tree oil in them help protect your face from razor burn and rashes. After cleansing your face apply a moisturizer. Your face is most vulnerable after shaving so be sure to soften it back up with a nice shaving moisturizer.

Ok so to sum it all up-
  • Moisturize face very well, layering it on 15 minutes before shaving
  • Apply baby oil and warm towel, let sit for a few minutes
  • Shower and shave directly after
  • When shaving, remember to use two razors, one with four blades and the other a single blade.
  • Clean the blade frequently, shave with the grain, and don't shave over the same spot more than once. Simply moisturize and go back to re-shave the tough spots once your face is nice and soft again.
  • Cleanse face with warm water and apply shaving moisturizer
For those of you with fast growing shadows remember to apply 'beard cover' before you apply foundation as part of your makeover regime. That way when the stubble does start to come through it will be well and truly masked by the beard cover.

A Cross Dressers Guide to Sexy Legs

Since most cross dressers already have naturally toned legs there is little effort involved in making your legs go from nice looking to show stopping. Try to put in the extra effort where you can ... It will be worth it trust me. Follow these simple steps and you will be shocked at how amazing your legs look after.

1. First Exfoliate
This is a very important step for a couple of reasons. First off, exfoliating will remove dry and flaky skin. Secondly, it will get rid of any stubborn hairs that may irritate your skin while shaving.

Apply your exfoliate cream to a loofah or body brush and start scrubbing your body in a circular motion. If you do not have an exfoliate cream already don't worry because there are several ways you can make one with just a few items from your kitchen. Mix together granulated sugar, honey, body oil, and some water and you have yourself your own homemade exfoliate.

2. Now you can Shave

Now that you have exfoliated your legs you can begin to shave them. For the cleanest shave, use a razor with 4 blades like Schick Quatro.  (if this is your first time shaving use an electric razor first to remove a majority of the hair) Make sure to replace your razor when you start to feel it tugging at your hairs.

There is no set time to replace it, because it really depends on how often you shave and how coarse your hair is. For the best shave, wet your legs, apply shaving cream, and begin shaving in an upward motion. When shaving, make sure you get out all of the hairs, even the stubborn ones(which should be no problem because you exfoliated!) for the best result.

3. Apply Barrier Cream

Barrier cream is used by spray tanners to avoid getting tan on places that normally don't see sun. You can use a regular lotion if you do not feel like going out and purchasing barrier cream.

In the next step I suggest using a tanning spray but first you need to apply some lotion to the areas of your legs that you do not want to get tan. For example, your knees, ankles, heels, etc. This will block the spray tan from these areas.

4. Add a Natural Glow

There are so many different tanning lotions and creams you can use but to achieve the most natural look I suggest a spray, because this will lightly mist on your tan instead of globing it on.  Try Neutrogena's micro-mist airbrush sunless tanning. Pay attention to the different shades to make sure you get a color to match your skin tone.

5. Wear High Heels

Now that you are all pampered and your legs are clean shaven and have a natural glow you want to put on a nice pair of high heels to really accentuate your calf muscles.

Heels don't just make your legs look amazing but also help your bust and butt protrude as well. Wearing heels often will also help build and tone your calf muscles, allowing them to look just as amazing without wearing heels.

Of course if your lifestyle prohibits the art of shaving your legs you can give the appearance of healthy, natural legs by wearing a pair of opaque pantyhose that not only mask hair and blemishes, but have a natural sheen to make you look oh-so healthy, no matter the time of year.

Now you are ready to go pamper those legs...Enjoy!

5 Tips to a more feminine Butt for CD/TG

A curvy bottom is one of the most admired features of the female figure. The preferred method to a naturally big butt would be to grow your glute muscles by doing a ton of squats and lunges, but for many this is close to impossible. So if you suffer from a flat bottom and don’t have the time to be at the gym for hours than follow these simple tricks and you will have a bigger booty in no time.

1. Padded Panties
Unfortunately not everyone is born with a show stopping bottom like Jlo, so you may have to settle with the next best thing. Padded panties will be your new best friend. They look great under dresses and skirts, giving you that perfect round shape. Try our La Curvy Padded Panties if you are a first time booty buyer. If you think you want something more life like than you can give the silicone padded panty a go.

2. Wear High Heels
Wearing high heels not only make your legs look sexier but will help your butt and boobs protrude more as well. Wearing heels forces you to arch your back which will make your butt stick out more.

3. Ruffled Shorts
Since padded panties are really only ideal under clothes, try petti panties or ruffled shorts. These will add a little volume to your butt and make you feel more feminine when you are lounging around the house.

4. Cinch your waist
Having a small waist is going to make your butt look larger by proportion. Try a waist cincher or underbust corset to create the ultimate illusion. This will also help  you to achieve the ideal female hourglass figure.

5. Wear the Right Outfit

Certain dresses and skirts will make your butt look more prominent. Once you have your padded panties, cincher, and heels on you now need to find that perfect outfit to bring it all together. Certain fabrics can flatten your butt right out so choosing the correct material is very important as well as the style of the outfit. Keep your eye out for dresses made of lycra or spandex. Bodycon dresses are very flattering to the butt as they are stretchy and form fitting. Avoid A-line skirts as this will actually make your butt appear smaller. Pictured below is our Bodycon and Stretch dress, both very flattering to the booty.

5 Cross-Dressing Tips on how to Pose & Look More Feminine for the Camera

Crossdressers love to take photographs. Whether you choose to share them on Facebook or you just store them for your own viewing pleasure, there are some easy pointers the top transformation artists know that will help you produce stunning shots. Follow these 5 simple tips to help achieve a more feminine pose. Keep in mind what type of look you are going for before posing for a shot. Always position yourself near natural lighting, such as a window.

1. Negative Space- Create triangles

When posing for a picture, you should pay attention to your negative space. You never want your arms straight down at your sides.  There should always be a gap between your arm and your waist. This will also help make your waist appear more narrow.
If you don't know where to put your arms try to create a triangle or diamond shape with your negative space. Whether your arm is by your side or over your head. Notice below, Paris Hilton's arm creates a perfect triangle shape, making for the perfect pose. Her other arm is in more of a diamond shape.

2. Arch your Back

Stand up nice and tall and slightly arch your back. Make sure your shoulders are back and your chest is slightly out. Have a confident and feminine stance. Whatever you do, don't slouch!

3. One leg in front of the other

Notice how Paris has one leg in front of the other. Always stand with one leg slightly in front of the other and slightly bend the front leg. Even if you are standing and want to cross your legs, make sure one is in front of the other. This will enhance the look of your calves as well.

4. Perfect your Smile

Practice, practice, practice! Putting on a pretend smile has been proven to actually make people happier, so why not perfect your smile by doing it all of the time? Smile as much as you can and it will show in pictures. Make sure to smile in front of a mirror as well to see what looks best. You also have to consider what type of look you are going for when smiling. If you want to look fun and flirty then make sure you show your teeth.  If you are going for a seductive look you don’t need to show teeth. The seductive smile is all about the eyes with a slightly slanted smirk.

5. Position your Face
A common portrait problem is the dreaded double chin. To avoid this you need to elongate your neck. Try pushing your face forward a bit and tip your chin slightly down. This is going to take some practice and will definitely feel awkward at first, but will be worth the outcome.  Another very feminine pose is to lean your head back and look at the camera as shown below or the over the shoulder look.

When in doubt go with the red carpet pose. I know it sounds cliché but it will help make you look slimmer and is always a flattering look in pictures. Place your hand on your hip and slightly angle your body. Turn your head towards the camera and elongate your face with your chin slightly down. It's basically just putting all of these tips in one.

Different Types of Corsets for CD/TG

There are so many different types of corsets... How are you supposed to know which one is for you? The short answer is to call and ask a Glamour Boutique associate, but if you don't have time to give us a call then take a look at this simple guide to the many styles and shapes of corsets. Each corset has a different function. We have one for every body type- short, long, or average torsos. We have options for small, medium or large body frames as well. Our most popular material would be the satin, although some prefer leather as it is a much stronger. We also offer cotton corsets which allows better circulation, keeping your body a little cooler. Every corset style and material have a different purpose and function. Read on to make sure you choose the best style for you.

Cincher Corset
Cincher’s are a good starting off point for beginners. They are nice and short allowing for your body to get used to the steel bones. If you are just beginning, stay away from double boned, and full cup corsets until your body is used to wearing or training with a cincher/under bust. The cincher allows for more flexibility and movement making the process easier for beginners.  The cincher’s are 10-10 ½ inches long and are ideal for an average body frame. Cinchers are less bulky and are great for wearing under outfits. They are small enough to wear over your outfit as well. Can reduce waist up to 4 inches.

Underbust Corset
Underbust corsets are also recommended for beginners. This corset is good if you have a larger belly and need that extra coverage. As you can see in the picture, the bottom comes to a V to cover any extra belly flesh from coming out of the bottom. The underbust corset measures 11 ½ - 12 inches. Most underbust corsets are also cut a little higher in the hip area. This corset is better if you are looking for a greater reduction to your waist, as it is longer than the cincher, it covers more of your waist and belly.

Underbust Corset

Underbust Corset for Longer Torso's
The underbust corset  for longer torso's is great for those that are very tall and need a longer corset to cover their entire torso. It measures 14 inches long. Like the other under bust corsets, this one too comes to a V towards the bottom for that extra support. This corset is for long torsos only. If you have a shorter torso, this one will wind up digging into your leg/crotch area when sitting down, so make sure if you go with this corset that you have a long enough torso for a 14 inch long corset.

Corset for Longer Torso's

Double Boned Corsets
The extra strong double boned corsets are ideal for extreme waist training and will allow for a more intense cinching of the waist.  This is also a good option for those who have a larger frame and are a little heavier. This corset measures 13 inches long and has 22 steel bones. The double bones will help with the waist reduction, providing a stronger cinch than single bones. The double boned corsets come as cinchers and under bust corsets. As mentioned before the cincher will target more of the waist area, where the under bust provides more coverage around the hips and below the breasts.

Extra Strong Double Boned Corset

PK1 for Longer Torso’s
The PK1 is another great option for those with longer torsos. This is a full corset with a full cup. This corset shows the full effect of an hourglass figure- slimming your waist and lifting your bust for a voluptuous look. The cup is great if you do not want to wear a bra- the half cup gives enough support to hold you in. We recommend that you order 2-4 inches below existing waist size for the PK1.

Wasp Cincher
The Double Boned Wasp Cinchers is great for really targeting the waist area. The Wasp is only 8 inches long intending to cinch the immediate waist area. The double bones  and targeted area on the waist ensure a beautifully cinched waist. The Waspie can cinch up to 4-6 inches off of your waist.

Wasp Waist Cincher

Measuring for a corset:
Using a paper or cloth tape measurer, measure the narrowest part of your waist- for generic females that is 2 inches above belly button, for men that is across the belly button. This measurement is your actual waist size. Take your waist size and subtract 4-6 inches-This is your corset size.

For example: Todd measures around his belly button and finds out he has a 34 inch waist. He is going to buy a size 30 corset.

All corsets are steel-boned and lace at the back. We have satin, leather, and cotton corsets.

10 Celebrity Look A-Like Wigs for CD/TG

When shopping for a wig you want to make sure you choose the best style, color, and length for your particular skin tone, eye color, and natural hair color. You don't want to take a trial and error approach when shopping for a wig or you will end up throwing hundreds of dollars down the drain.

A simple way of choosing a wig is to look at celebrities hairstyles. They tend to know the best color, length, and style for their face. Try to find a celebrity that has similar facial features and tones as yours. Look through all of the different hairstyles they have and find a similar wig to match that particular style.

To get you started I put together a celebrity hairstyle look-alike for you. So let's take a look at the most wanted celeb hairstyles and the wigs that resemble them the most. Whether they are long and sexy or short and chic they all all pretty fabulous.

Long & Lovely

1.Reese Witherspoon has the most gorgeous long blonde hair. The hair piece that resembles her lovely locks the most is the Jaela wig, pictured to the right. The Jaela wig  is slightly longer than Reese's and has slightly fuller bangs but is just as fine, shiny and gorgeous.

2.The Becky wig has flowing curly layers with plenty of volume and side swept bangs like Carrie Underwood. The Becky wig is made to fit average to larger head sizes. This is one of my favorite celebrity look-alike wigs. The color pictured is light brown with golden blonde chunky highlights.
 3. If you admire Taylor Swift's hair then you will fall in love with the Obsession wig. This very long beautiful hair piece is one length with nice straight bangs that tailor off to the side rather than blunt bangs. This one is perfect for your cd/tg girls because  of it's heat resistant fibers, you can go curly or straight, leaving you many different styling options.
4.If you are looking for the feathery layered look than the Peace wig is your winner. It has side swept bangs and nice choppy layers. This one of Glamour Boutique's best selling wigs. It is nice and light but also has some body to it from the layers and side swept bangs.

Mid-Length Movie Stars

5.Who doesn't admire Jennifer Anniston's hair? What I would do for that hair! The Skye wig pictured to the right resembles her hair very nicely, it is also very shiny and fine like Anniston's.  This is such a nice wig for cd/tg who want very natural looking hair without having to spend a fortune.
6. This is one of the most popular hair trends right now- shoulder length hair, longer in the front and shorter in the back. It has that sexy rolled out of bed look. The Jessica wig has nice side swept bangs to add to the great hairstyle.
7.  If you have fair skin like Krysten Ritter than you may want to try out the edgy hair style. If you take the Eternity stretch cap wig to a salon and have them trim the bangs and ends of hair a little it will give this wig a really nice natural look like Krysten Ritter's.

Short & Sexy

8.I love this short and chic look. The Heidi wig is both sexy and classy. The short look gives off a very natural appearance as well. The color pictured is Caramel Kiss.
9. The Venna wig is a very natural  yet stylish look for women in their 40 to late 50's. The color pictures is Caramel Kiss, but like all of our wigs, it comes in a variety of colors.
 10.  This hairstyle is so flattering if your facial features are on the petite side. It is also great for cd/tg ladies in their 40-50's but also works for the younger gals as well. The Ellen wig is very classy yet chic, and comes in a similar brown color as well as many other shades.

Which wig is your favorite celebrity look-alike ??

All of our wigs come in various colors. Each style will have a color chart. Happy wig shopping friends :)
