Simple DIY Costume Idea's for Your Little Black Dress or Corset

Fall decorations are coming out, pumpkin coffee is being served, and Halloween is approaching. There are so many fun costume ideas that you can make at home with your current wardrobe. Finding a cute costume to fit could be a struggle for some, which is why making your own is such a fun alternative. It allows you to personalize your look and guarantee that it is going to fit perfectly.

Just add a few accessories to your LBD or corset and you have a great Halloween costume for this year. Most of the accessories and make-up you will have already (or something similar). If you don't you can purchase them on our website, Here are some simple DIY costume idea's for your little black dress or corset!

Sexy Cruella de Vil

Tired of being so nice all the time? Get in touch with your inner villain and be Cruella for a day!  The best part is you get to walk around with a stuffed animal Dalmatian all night. This is a perfect costume if you are tall and lean. All you need is your LBD, fishnet stockings, long gloves and a white coat (faux fur works best) to pull this one off. Be creative. If you don't have all of these items, take a look in your closet and try to find an alternative. I think the red heels look great with the red lipstick and gloves. You can use baby powder and some hairspray on half of your hair if you don't have a similar wig.

  • Little Black Dress
  • Long red gloves
  • White coat
  • Black fishnet stockings
  • Red heels

Optional Make-up/Accessories:
White face paint, red lipstick, heavy black eyes: shadow, liner, and eyebrows-- If you have one of our black chokers, that is a good add on, and of course a Dalmatian stuffed animal for that added cute factor.

Tiger sporting a black corset

This is a very simple, fun, yet sexy costume. A black petticoat goes really well with this tigeresque costume too. This one is perfect if you are have to prepare a costume with little time. All you need is your corset or a LBD, shorts, cat ears, and some paint. Painting just the face looks just as cute if you are crunched for time and can’t do the whole body. Such a great way to show off your curves...

  •   Black full corset or LBD
  •   Shorts
  •   Orange and black face paint
  •   Cat ears
Optional Make-up/Accessories:
Wear your hair down and tease the ends working your way up to the roots for a more fierce tiger look.
Make-up: I suggest doing the cat eye for your eyes, and black lipstick for an even more dramatic look.

Lara Croft from Tomb Raider

Although this one doesn't show a LBD or corset it is just such a hot costume I had to add it in. A corset looks just as good as the crop top does. If you are familiar with Tomb Raider you already know that Lara Croft is one fierce lady. If shorts aren't really your thing go with green or black leggings.

  • Corset
  • Leggings or green/black shorts
  • Combat boots
  • Toy guns
  • Belt
Optional Make-up/Accessories:
Wear your hair down or a pony tail.

Naughty Cop

This is a great one because all you need is a nice corset, a petticoat, some fishnets and if you have children you may not even have to buy the handcuffs and badge- if you do need some, check your local dollar store. If you don't have a corset already you can also wear a LBD with a belt. High black boots really complete this outfit too. You can choose to make the center piece to your costume a LBD or corset with any of these costume idea's.
  • Black over bust corset
  • Black petticoat
  • Fishnet stockings
  • Toy handcuffs and badge
  • Black boots

Gather your accessories, heels, and wigs, and start transforming that LBD or favorite corset into this year’s next best costume.

To Fly en Femme or Not to Fly en Femme?

Traveling is often one of the most exciting times to go out as your femme self. Whether traveling for business or for pleasure, it is a great time to reinvent yourself. There can be fear and hesitation in doing this for obvious reasons--Are they going to search me? Will they open my bag in front of everyone?  All of these things may run through your head when you are trying to decide whether to dress for your next business trip. Let’s try to take some of the stress away with providing you some of the rules and regulations from the Transportation Security Administration for traveling as a TG/CD.

Know your rights
You are allowed to ask for a private screening at any time during the screen process. You can also ask to speak with a supervisor at any time.  If you request to be screened privately it can be done with a witness there or with someone you are traveling with as well. Some airports use Advance Image Technology (AIT) which you may opt out of at any time. If you choose to do so, they will need to conduct a thorough pat down.  When making reservations to travel, make sure you give them yor legal name and date of birth as it appears on your license. Your picture does not have to match your appearance. You have the right to travel in whichever gender you wish, as long as the name and birthdate you provide match your driver's license.

Carry-on luggage
You are free to bring any of your prosthetics with you on your travels. They will be screened through security like any other bag. If your bag is flagged for some reason and needs to be searched, you are allowed to request that it is done in private. You may feel more comfortable packing any prosthetics or medicine in your check on luggage rather than your carry-on. Gel breast forms are not considered to be part of the 3oz. limit for liquids. All other liquids must be under 3 ounces or put in a checked baggage. Be aware that steel boned corsets may alert the scanner so it may be a good idea to pack this in your check on bag or carry-on rather than wearing it through security.
Pat down?
From the research I have done on this, it seems that you are at as much risk as anyone for a pat down. So my advice is just be prepared. I suggest mentioning in advance that if you need to be pat down that you prefer it be done privately (unless this isn’t a concern for you). It is stated, that prosthetics being worn under clothing may be picked up on the security and need a more thorough pat down. When you are being pat down, you are not required to remove any prosthetics. Be sure to explain in detail what you are wearing under your clothing prior to being pat down. If you were ever asked to remove an item, calmly ask to speak to a supervisor.

Contacting TSA
To ensure that you have a worry-free trip, I would suggest calling before your flight to ask any questions you may have. Airport employees are now trained to expect to meet transgendered and cross dressing travelers. It is a lot more common for people to travel en femme than it used to be.  I hope this article helped and answered any questions you may have had on the subject. You can contact TSA at 1-866-289-9673 or email

I hope you now have a clearer understand of what flying en femme would be like.

A Closet for Cross Dresser’s – A Beginner's Guide

Being a beginner cross dresser can be a bit intimidating and scary at first. How are you supposed to search for breast forms, wigs, and corsets when you have no idea what you are doing? That’s where I come in. Our experts here at are here to take the fear out of the transformation process. The goal is to make this a fun, liberating transition for you.
First, decide what type of woman you aspire to be. Actually picture what she would look like visually.

Maybe you are going for a classy, sophisticated look. Perhaps you want to show your wild side through a tight leather skirt, lace pantyhose, and a hot red wig.

The choice is YOURS.

No matter what your end result looks like, there are some basic items you need to add to your closet.

Waist Cinching Corset

If you have never tried one before, you are going to be pleasantly surprised when you do. Whether you want to try waist training or just wear one when you go out to create more of an hourglass system and the illusion of feminine hips this is a must have item. As soon as you put one of these on you will instantly see a change in your overall shape. It’s seriously like magic.
Yes, I really used a picture from 1950. Not only can you see how it has cinched her waist in but you now also have proof that corsets have been around for a long time!! Although this picture is from the 50’s, corsets have been used by men and women since the 16th century. Lucky for us, they are a bit more attractive now, with many different colors and styles to choose from.

Wigs- Yes, plural. Who say's you can only have 1 hair style?

Now we go back to how you picture yourself in the end. Do you want to be a blonde, brunette, redhead, or maybe go with bright pink hair? Once you have that down, you need to choose your style. Certain wigs look better on certain face shapes. It may take a while to find that perfect wig for you. If you don’t want to go through the trial and error approach then call us to schedule a private appointment in our showroom where you can try on our selection of wigs.

Breast Forms- Big, Bigger, or the Biggest?

Soo many types of boobs, how do you choose?? First, have in mind what size cup you want: B small, C medium. D large or DD very large. Size of cup and shape of the forms will determine if you want a conservative, realistic look or a fun busty look? For a busty look try the Affordable Teardrop’s with their high profile. Want a more natural look? Take a look at the Perfectly Perky Ovals.
If you are looking to go big (I mean REALLY big) then here are some great options for you- very large breast forms
If you really have no clue what look you want, then again feel free to call our FREE phone advice line on 1 888 721 8688 or book an appointment to be fitted in our New Jersey location showroom. Our experts will be more than happy to help you.

Make-up for a Make-over

Make-up is a beautiful thing

Having said that, it definitely takes practice but is so worth the outcome you get. If you have already taken a venture at this then you know what I am talking about.

A very important part of your make-over is contouring. Check out our Contouring 101 article for tips. If you have no make-up at all I would suggest starting with foundation, beard cover, and a make-up kit to experiment with colors, and shades.

Don’t start putting on your make-up if you have no end result in mind. Make sure you find a picture of someone’s make-up you really admire and try to mimic what they did. If you just blindly start applying different colors it may come off as too strong.

Choose a feature to accentuate. Go simple with all other features. So, if you really want bold lips then go more natural with your eyes. If you want your eyes to pop then keep your lips simple.

To achieve bold lips, first line them with a lip liner similar to the color of the lipstick or lip gloss you chose- sometimes applying a little foundation first will help to make your lipstick last longer and allows the color to really pop. Then fill them in with your lipstick. Smack your lips together lightly, and blot with a tissue to avoid lipstick on your teeth.

If you want bold eyes, try a SmokeyEye look.
When you are feeling confident, and are ready to step it up and head out into the world, try adding some accessories.
