A Guide to Dramatic Eyes for Cross Dressers

If your eyes are your best asset then you want them to stand out and pop. Your eyes are a very powerful tool if use them correctly. Whether you want to look innocent, flirty, or sexy, drawing attention to your eyes is KEY.

Creating dramatic eyes is also great if your eyes aren't necessarily your best asset. Maybe they are a little on the smaller side and you want them to look bigger and bolder.

To create dramatic eyes you want to keep your other facial features simple. Go light on your lips using a nude or light pink lipstick or gloss.

Follow the simple steps below and you will be drawing people in with your eyes in no time!

1. First apply the rest of your makeup. Apply your beard cover, foundation, and contour appropriately. If you shape your eyebrows make sure they are defined with a nice arch to help draw attention to your eyes- eye brow stencils are a great aid to help with this. Highlight right below your eye brow.

Remember: go light on the lips, line them with a color that is close your lip color and then add a soft nude or pink color. If you go to bold with the lips this will take away from your eyes.

2. Next, apply a primer to your eyelids- this will help your eye shadow stay on and not fade as the day goes on. If you don't have a primer then you can use foundation or concealer. Apply a thin layer on your eye lids.

3. Choose a light eye shadow color of your choice. For dramatic eyes, a shimmer color works the best. Certain colors compliment your eye color better than others. Apply the light color to your entire eye lid in an upward motion working your way to your brow bone.

4. Now that you have the base color you want to choose a shade darker than your base color. If you chose a shimmer color then stick with a shimmer color that is a shade darker. You are basically going to create a smokey eye.

Start from the middle of your eyelid as pictured below and shade the outer part of your eye lid with your darker color. Angle your brush upward and shade toward your eye brow. Then lightly shade the top of where the eye shadow stops (top part, closest to eye brow).

5. Almost done! Now you should apply your false lashes. You want to do this after your eye shadow so your lashes blend nicely with your eye shadow. Hint: curl your natural lashes first then glue false ones on.

6. Lastly, you want to apply your eye liner. If you are a beginner at this I suggest using a black eye shadow with a flat eye liner brush. This will be easier to control then an eye liner pencil. Dip your brush into the black or dark brown shadow (use a flat matte color not shimmer) and line right above your eye lashes. Then take a smudger brush to smooth out the lining. If you are unsure of which types of brushes to use see our guide to makeup brushes.

5 Trans-Friendly Stores for Cross Dressers

Last week I shared some tips on shopping for women's clothing as a cross dresser, which seemed to be of some help to many of you. This week I thought I would delve deeper into this topic and go over some specific stores that welcome transgender and cross dressing individuals. This is important for those of you who do not have specialist retailers like GlamourBoutique.com in Fairfield, NJ on your doorstep.

Typically most stores that sell plus sized woman's clothing will be very inviting to cross dressers because they realize that you make up a large part of their market.

Many of these stores have gone so far to offer to open their store early or to stay late so you can shop in comfort. This is not something you find everyday so when I heard this I knew I had to share these stores with you.

All the stores below not only welcome cross dressers and transgender individuals but have been said to be extremely helpful and will give you their one on one attention to make sure you find something you love.

Lane Bryant
This store caters to plus sized women and is very trans-friendly. If you are someone who has a hard time fitting into standard women's sizes than this is the store for you. You can find everything you need; stylish dresses, swimwear, active wear, bra's, sexy lingerie, and much more.

Keep in mind that sales associates typically help 2-3 cross dressers a week, so you shouldn't feel awkward in asking someone to size you or help you pick out an outfit.

I would however suggest calling ahead of time to speak with the employee on staff at the time. Unfortunately even though certain stores may be trans-friendly, it does not mean all employees are. This of course goes for all stores, not just Lane Bryant.

Macy's
Most larger department stores are Trans-friendly, but Macy's in particular has been said to have some really amazing sales associates. If you worry about seeing someone you know then venture out to one that is further from your home so you can shop in peace.

Don't be afraid to ask them to help you with finding the correct size, or even some advice on what looks best- After all they typically work off commission, so take advantage of their willingness to help you.

Another plus to Macy's is that they have a makeup counter, where someone can help you find the right makeup for your skin- You can even get a makeover while you are there, which is always fun! Here in NJ we find our local Macy's Mac Cosmetics concession has the best and most TG friendly staff.

Torrid
Torrid is another store that caters to plus-sized woman and is very trans-friendly. They have great reviews and awesome sales associates that are very helpful to cross dressers and transgenders.

Many cd/tg's have shopped in Torrid in drab and en femme and have all said that the staff there is very professional and helpful. The sales associates in plus-sized stores are different than sales associates in a typical store because of who they cater to, so give them a chance and you will be pleasantly surprised.

I personally love their dresses because they have every different style you could ever want; Maxi, body-con, skater, open-back, and swing dresses are just a few to name. This is helpful because every body type looks good in a different style dress.

Dress Barn

If you don't necessarily need plus-sized clothing and would like some age-appropriate attire then Dress Barn is a great trans-friendly store to shop at. They do however offer every size possible; misses, petite, and plus-size, which is great.

Every manufacture runs differently so in certain outfits you may need plus size and in others you may fall under regular sizes, so it is good to have the option of both.

Dress Barn also has really affordable prices and has a wide variety of styles. Whether en femme or drab the sales associates are willing to help you find a size and will gladly point you in the direction of the dressing room. We do recommend you call ahead before going the first time and if you are nervous the sales associates will be happy to recommend the quieter times to shop.

Lord and Taylor
Lord and Taylor is similar to Macy's in the sense that it is a larger store where the sales associates work off of commission and are very willing to help you find what you are looking for.

When deciding where to shop you need to think about what you are looking for. If you would like to shop alone then as I said in my previous shopping post, stores like Kohls or Old Navy may be more suitable for you, but if you want help picking out sizes and outfits then a store like Macy's is perfect for you.

Lord and Taylor is more high-end but has some top designers and really trendy clothes to choose from. They also have a makeup counter which is always great. Many cd/tg's have had very pleasant experiences with the sales associates while shopping and trying on makeup.

Also don't forget about stores that cater specifically to cross dressers like glamourboutique.com. Places like Glamour Boutique ensure you have complete privacy and discretion when shopping so there is no fear of any unwelcome attention you may be afraid of. Here at the NJ showroom clients can book an hour of uninterupted shopping time where they can browse and try garments in the privacy of their own showroom. Also, many products in such outlets are specifically made for M to F transgender girls; for example, dresses will be cut broader in the shoulders and narrower in the hip to make the most of the different body shape a CD has.You can also find everything you need under one roof at the specialist retailers including breast forms, padded panties and large size shoes.

If you wish to shop at our NJ showroom all we ask is that you schedule an appointment by calling 1 888 721 8688 to ensure your privacy, but once you do that, you have full reign of the showroom, where you can spend as much time as you need shopping and trying on clothes by yourself with the help of a friendly staff member.

Top Tips on how to Pass a Woman

If you are a cross dresser and want to go out in public, chances are you want to be seen as a lady, not a cross dresser. Of course this is not true in all cases, it is all personal preference.

It really is the little things that matter when trying to be passable as a woman. Think about first impressions, one decides very quickly how they feel about that person. It is the same concept with being passable.

The first impression you give off is just as important as the pretty face you have. Below are some tips in which we see as being the most important areas to focus on when trying to pass as a woman.

Makeup
No matter how feminine your face may be, you are gonna need makeup to pass as a woman. If you are just starting out, than I would suggest getting your makeup professionally done. You will learn a lot from actually watching someone apply makeup to your face.

Watching videos and following makeup tutorials can be helpful as well but can also be overwhelming, because there is so much to know. Also everyone's face is different so watching someone apply makeup to your face is a really great way to become an expert, and you will be pleased with how fabulous and passable you look after.

Tip: There are certain types of makeup, aka beard covers that are used in performing arts that great to help cover up any beard stubble. It's the little things that will help you become more passable.

Natural looking hair
Having beautiful hair that compliments your face is key to passing. You don't want to just find a long, flowing wig that you love and assume it's going to look natural on you.

So what type of wig should you buy? This ultimately depends on your face shape, skin tone, and natural hair color, but to not overwhelm you all at once just start with a color that is close to your natural hair and eye brow color.

If you are going with a blonde wig, than consider one with natural roots. Some wigs will be all one color which is not as natural as the ones with the darker roots or undertones/highlights throughout. For more help, check out find a wig for your face shape.

Tip: Don't go with a cheap wig, because you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to wigs!

Clothing
In reality many women do dress in rather manly clothing, whether it be for comfort, fashion, or just a personal preference but for cross dressers it is important to dress in feminine clothes.

I am sure I don't have to tell you this twice though, because one of the most exhilarating parts of cross dressing is picking out those sexy, flirty outfits.

Finding clothes that will cater to your more feminine qualities and choosing outfits that will cover your more masculine body attributes is key to passing in women's clothing. Stores like glamourboutique.com that cater to cross dressers is a great place to start, because the clothes are made to fit your male figure.

Tip: Try to stay on top of current fashion trends, this will help you become more passable.

Bye bye body hair
This is very important to passing as a woman and is often overlooked. You can be done up from head to toe with your makeup, hair, and heels, but if you have any male body hair showing, it is a dead giveaway.

Consider removing all hair from your face, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Make sure you get a clean close shave on your face. If you can't shave your legs then wear opaque pantyhose that are nice and thick to cover up your hair.

Tip: The best way to remove hair from your hands and feet, besides laser treatment is waxing. If you shave your hands and feet and have dark hair, it will be very noticeable that you have shaved them.

Walk like a lady
Now that you look like a lady you have to learn how to act like one. This is often overlooked and will be a dead giveaway in being passable. Start studying other women's mannerisms. Notice how they act, walk, and take note of their posture.

There are many classes that help teach men the mannerism of a female but you can also do this by being observant. Try wearing heels as often as possible, this will help with your walk and your posture.

Tip: Try shortening your stride, and loosen up a bit. Don't walk so stiff, try to have a nice flow when you walk.

LOOK like a lady
Back to the first impressions. Always make eye contact when talking to someone. Be confident and stand tall. Pay close attention to your body language.

Focus on how you are standing and sitting. When you sit make sure your legs are close together, preferably crossed.

Tip: Set up a camera at home or better yet have a friend video tape you walking down the street. You will quickly pick up on what type of impression you give off to people. This will help you improve your confidence.

I hope this helped some of you that are trying to pass as a woman. Just try to be patient and realize that nothing happens overnight. If you have any questions or suggestions, leave a comment below!
